Q. How can I find out if there is a known predator (convict) in my neighborhood? What is Megan's Law?
A. The Klaas Foundation has provided valuable information regarding Megan's Law and we also suggest you become familiar with the www.AmberAlert.com.
Q. I have had numerous sessions with my children about the dangers of dealing with strangers. Isn't that enough?
A. No. Because this issue needs constant reinforcement, it is important for kids to hear from an expert in this field. Just as the police officer gives weight to the issues addressed through the D.A.R.E. program. Nearly all parents talk to their children about drugs, but it is when this issue is described in detail through the local Sheriff's Departments that the kids get a real feel for the dangers. In areas where this program is not available or not used for whatever reason, teenage drinking and drug abuse are on the rise. Another example would be that as many times as we stress to our children the important of fire safety, the most powerful instruction often comes from a fireman!
Q. Are there situations that might put some children more at risk than others? What are they?
A. Yes. If your child lives in a heavily populated area, they may be at a higher risk. Also, if you have different people picking up your children from school, they may be more likely to go along with any one that says they are there to pick them up. There are many situations that may increase the risk that your child will be targeted and we address those situation at length in the video.
Q. My child has been harassed at school and in our neighborhood by bullies. Will your video address this type of situation?
A. The confidence issues addressed in this first video will certainly help. This issue will be addressed more specifically in our next upcoming video.
Q. Does my child need to be in some type of karate class to use the techniques you use in your video?
A. Not necessarily, although a good martial arts program such as that provided through the (Taekwondo USA) that is specifically geared towards the needs and abilities of children, will instill confidence and a great sense of awareness in children.
